Greg Barclay CNZM

Greg was a founding partner of Claymore in 1997 and became a consultant to the firm in 2014. He graduated in law from the University of Canterbury and has a post-graduate business qualification from the University of Auckland.

He has a general commercial practice with an emphasis on mergers and acquisitions, structured financing (including debt and equity raising) and acts for a number of high net worth individuals. He also has extensive experience advising SME’s including in areas of new investment, project commercialisation, venture capital and franchising. He has had a long involvement in the business of sport and large events, including numerous rugby and cricket events and World Cups in New Zealand and Australia.

At present he is a director or chair of various New Zealand public and private companies including Rakon, Comvita, Pacific Forest Products and Boffa Miskell. He was the chair of NZX and ASX listed Smartpay until its recent acquisition under a scheme of arrangement.

Greg is also a past or present director of some high-profile sporting entities in New Zealand and off-shore. He is a former chairman of New Zealand Cricket and was the Chairman of the International Cricket Council (“ICC”) which is based in Dubai from 2020 to 2024. Currently he is a director of New Zealand Rugby and is their delegate to world Rugby.

As well as being a proud born and bred New Zealander, Greg also holds Canadian citizenship. He is the honorary solicitor to the Canadian Trade Consulate and the Canada New Zealand Business Association. He is a Chartered Member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors.
